Abstract

This study was a quasi experimental design. It aimed to (1) compare the breast cancer-preventive behaviors of women at risk before and after receiving the coaching program on breast cancer-preventive behaviors and (2) compare between the breast cancer-preventive behaviors of women at risk who received the coaching program and those who received usual care. The participant of women age 35-59 years who are relatives of the patient or secondary breast cancer and/or women receiving hormonal estrogen more than 5 years who received services at the hospital. Women at risk interested in joining a group of 75 women. The researcher selected participants by using simple random sampling of 40 women at risk equally divied into a contral group and experimental group. The experimental group received the program including attended a 60-minute coaching session on breast cancer-preventive behaviors at Lerdsin Hospital and home visits were provided 4th weeks after receiving the coaching session. Research tools included the coaching program on breast cancer-preventive behaviors. Data collection included a questionnaire on demographic information and Breast Cancer-Preventive Behaviors Questionnaire, the control group received usual care from the nurse professional at the outpatient surgery clinic of Lerdsin Hospital. The duration of the study was totally 8 weeks. To analyze the data, Descriptive statistics (percentages, means and standard deviation), The Wilcoxon Matched Pairs Test and The Mann-Whitney U Test were used.The results showed that breast cancer-preventive behaviors in women at risk after receiving the coaching program than before the coaching program at the significance level .05 and breast cancer-preventive behaviors in women at risk who had received the coaching program than those who had received usual care at the significance level .05. Therefore, nurses should use coaching program on breast cancer-preventive behaviors in the campaign to protect women at risk of breast cancer.
