The effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation program in open heart surgery patients at Heart Clinic, Naresuan University Hospital
Keywords:

This Retrospective study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of post-operative cardiac rehabilitation program for 6 months in open heart surgery patients. In a retrospective study, open heart surgery patients (n = 80) were purposively selected from Naresuan University Hospital between 1st October 2016 to 30th September 2017. All patients were assigned to continuous training group (n = 49) and discontinuous training group (n = 31). The continuous training group completed the home based cardiac rehabilitation program for six months whereas the discontinuous training group performed the program only three months after hospital discharge. All patients were assessed the six-minute walk test (6-MWT) to determine the walk distance covered before, 3 and 6 months after hospital discharge periods. The results showed that the distance covered were improve in the continuous training group (388 meters at 3 months; 42 meters at 6 months). However, the distance covered were increased at 3 months (339 meters) but decreased at 6 months (38 meters) in the discontinuous training group (p < .05).This study concludes that the six-month home based cardiac rehabilitation program can be improving exercise capacity in open heart surgery patients at Heart Clinic, Naresuan University Hospital. This study also suggested that multidisciplinary team can applied the continuous home-based cardiac rehabilitation program for open heart surgery patients.
