The Effect of Nursing Model Integrated with Family Support and Empowerment on Breastfeeding in the First-time Teenage Postpartum Mothers

This research was a quasi-experiment. The purpose of this research was to compare knowledge and skill in breastfeeding, self- efficacy, and self-esteem in breastfeeding in the First-time teenage postpartum mothers between experimental group and control group. The samples were selected by purposive sampling composed of the 60 First-time teenage postpartum mothers at postpartum ward in the Ledsin Hospital, that separated into two groups (experimental group and control group). The research tool was a test of knowledge in breastfeeding, performance form during breastfeeding, and questionnaire including personal data, selfefficacy, and self-esteem in breastfeeding. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and t-test. The results indicated that after experiment the First-time teenage postpartum mothers who used the nursing model integrated with family support and empowerment on breastfeeding have knowledge, skill and self- efficacy in breastfeeding which were statistically higher than the control group at p<.05. However, the self-esteem in breastfeeding was not difference in the experiment and control group. The findings suggested that the nursing model integrated with family support and empowerment on breastfeeding could improve the knowledge, skill, and self confidence in breastfeeding of the First-time teenage postpartum mothers.
