Abstract

This action research with descriptive design aimed to develop and evaluate the evidence-based nursing protocol for patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) using CURN Model. The purposive sampling was used to recruit the sample which was 31 nurses working in three in-patient units associated with the targeted patients in Phramongkutklao Hospital (Trauma ICU, Men Trauma Ward, and Women Trauma Ward). The research instruments included the newly developed Evidence-based Nursing Protocol for Patients with Moderate to Severe TBI with the manual and the data collecting questionnaires consisting of 2 parts: demographic data and the 5-level Likert scale evaluation questionnaire (25 items) on the users’ opinions toward the nursing protocol (The Cronbach alpha coefficient = .89). The results demonstrated that CURN Model is practical and effective to bridge research and nursing practice, facilitating the development of the evidence-based nursing protocol for the patients. The users rated overall satisfaction of the nursing protocol in desirable level and agreed that application of the nursing protocol would result in greater quality of nursing care and favorable patient outcomes for individuals with moderate to severe TBI.
