Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study the levels of knowledge, attitude and perceived of patient safety skill; and examine the relationships of knowledge, attitude and perceive of patient safety skill of the senior Air Force student nurses. Samples were 46 senior Air Force student nurses. Questionnaires were used to collectthe data which composed of knowledge, attitude and perceived of patient safety skill. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, and Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. It was found that the majority of the samples’ knowledge level of patient safety was good (54.5%) and their attitude toward patient safety was at good levels (56.5%). Perceived of patient safety skill was at good levels (47.8%). The findings of the relationships between attitude and perceived of patient safety skill were significantly correlated (r = 0.77, p < 0.05), knowledge was not significantly correlated to attitude and perceived of patient safety skill (r = 0.27, r = 0.18, p >0.05, respectively). The results of this study can use to improve learning and teaching process in order to enhance knowledge by creating scenario which focuses on analytic thinking of the adverse event that needed knowledge to explain root cause of error. Positive attitude and perceived of patient safety skill should be taught by situational analysis to determine patient safety situations that can draw attention to enhance positive attitude and good perception of patient safety skill.
