Factors Affected Mortality Rate in Elderly with Fractured Around the Hip in Buengkan Province

Abstract

Fracture around the hip have been considered to be major problem in elderly patient that increase morbidity and mortality. This retrospective descriptive study objected to study the factors affected mortality rate in elderly patients with fracture around the hip, femoral neck fracture or peritrochanteric fracture of femur. Whose admitted in Buengkan hospital from 1 January 2016-31 December 2020. The data were collected from inpatient and outpatient electronic medical record, X-ray files in Buengkan hospital and civil registration from Beungkan municipality. The data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics include frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation and analysis statistics with Chi-square test. Two hundred and fifty hip fractures admitted from 1 January 2016- 31  December 2020 were 31.60% male and 58.40% female. Incidence rate was 5.93 per 100,000 persons. Average age was 77 years. Fracture femoral neck 41.60% and Fracture peritrochaneric of femur 58.40%. Overall mortality was 23.20%. Age over 80 year were death in one year 31.20% (p=0.034). Patient whose treated without surgery have high mortality 27.70% (p=0.004)
