Abstract

Workplace violence is one of common occupational hazards in the healthcare facilities and a major public health problem worldwide. Workplace violence has been shown to have negative impact on worker’s health, safety and productivity. That can lead to early resignation, permanent disability or even death. The likelihood of developing violence depends on many factors, including factors of potential victims, factors of potential perpetrators, organizational factors and environmental factors. Although the problem of workplace violence is becoming increasingly important, incidents of violence that occur in healthcare facilities are frequently evident. This is particularly true for psychiatric nurses who are responsible for a large number of psychiatric patients. Patients often have mood swings and sudden violence behavior. This article may lead executives to plan for setting management, developing measures, and finding appropriate guidelines to reduce the impact of workplace violence.
