The Coronavirus Disease 2019 Surveillance, Control and Prevention System and its impact on the Kamphaeng Phet Province population

Abstract

This study aimed 1) to explore the impact of COVID-19 on KPP people 2) to identify the COVID-19 surveillance, control, and prevention system and establish the policy for COVID-19 implementation in Kamphaeng Phet Province.  This mixed-method model research evaluated the results of 1,231 people using multi-stage sampling. The study results revealed 1) Impact of COVID-19:  1.1) the psychological impact was moderate. Age, education, level ownership of housing, occupation, family monthly income and comorbidities were significant differences. 1.2) Social Impact, 70.8% of people accessed information through public health personnel and health volunteers. 35.6% purchased consumer products via the online system, and 58.7% bought consumer products from the store directly. 68.68% reported that their children were not ready for online learning, and 38.73% concerned about healthcare workers' burden. 1.3) the economic impact was moderate level. 31.2% affected by the policy to reduce the spread of COVID-19, including temporarily closing stores and reducing hours. The most effective government supports were the cost of living control (35.2%) and the compensation for vulnerable people (33.2%). 2) The COVID-19 surveillance, control and prevention system were as follows: surveillance and monitoring the people from other areas by using the same data and criteria. Patient care and infection prevention by setting an acute respiratory infection clinic (ARI clinic), negative pressure room, and laboratory to perform a diagnostic test. Moreover, a spider-web communication model was applied for risk communication in Khlong Khlung district. Suggestions based on research results include developing a surveillance system, improving the COVID-19 investigation process, expanding a spider-web communication model, developing a simple and rapid test kit, as well as determining the mitigation plans.
