Effects of Implementing a Nursing Practice Guideline for Neonatal Sepsis on Nursing Outcomes at Pathum Thani Hospital
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: Neonatal infection, occurring within the first 72 hours after birth and beyond, is a significant health problem that can lead to severe complications and increased mortality. Implementing standardized nursing practice guidelines is essential to improve the quality and outcomes of neonatal care.
Objective: To examine nursing outcomes after implementingnursing practice guidelines for neonates with infection at Pathum Thani Hospital.
Methods: This quasi-experimental study included 13 registered nurses and 80 neonates aged 0–28 days. Research instruments consisted of a knowledge test, a nursing practice assessment form, and clinical outcomes record form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, Mann–Whitney U Test, and Chi-square Test.
Results: After implementing the guidelines, nurses had significantly higher overall knowledge and nursing practice scores (p<.05). All aspects of nursing practice also improved significantly (p<.05). However, neonatal outcomes, including length of hospital stay and lumbar puncture rates, showed no statistically significant differences between the pre- and post-implementation groups.
Conclusion: The implementation of nursing practice guidelines for neonates with infection significantly improved nurses’ knowledge and practice. Although neonatal outcomes did not show statistically significant changes, the guidelines can be adopted as a standard of care for the neonates in the clinical settings.
