Abstract

Background: Strict measures to control the spread of COVID-19 have affected the daily lives of older adults, who are at higher risk of severe infection. Although the situation has shifted to a surveillance phase, some preventive measures may still limit physical activity and potentially affect the quality of life among older adults.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate physical activity and quality of life and to examine the relationship between physical activity and quality of life among older adults who had previously been infected with COVID-19 in Chiang Mai Province.

Methods: This study used a descriptive correlational design to investigate the relationship between physical activity and quality of life among older adults with a history of COVID-19 infection in Chiang Mai Province. The sample consisted of 146 older adults who had previously been infected with COVID-19, selected using multistage sampling. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and the Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient.

Results: The mean score of physical activity of older adults was moderate, while that of the quality of life was at a good level. Physical activity showed a moderate positive correlation with quality of life (rs=.46, p<.01).

Conclusions: The results provide baseline information to help health professionals plan interventions to promote physical activity and improve quality of life among older adults with a history of COVID-19 infection.
