Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: There are many methods to control blood glucose levels among people at risk for type 2 diabetes, but one of the most effective methods is to promote appropriate dietary habits.
Objective: To study the effectiveness of the application of the transtheoretical model to promote appropriate dietary behavior among people at risk for diabetes mellitus type 2 in a community of Sakhon Nakhon province.
Methods: The study was conducted based on a two-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 130 people at risk for diabetes mellitus type 2. The instruments were a dietary behavior promotion program, personal data questionnaire, stage of change level of dietary consumption behavior questionnaire, dietary consumption behavior questionnaire, and fasting capillary blood glucose level sheet. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and t-test.
Results: After participating in the program, the experimental group showed a better level of change in dietary consumption behavior than the comparison group. It was found that the mean score of dietary consumption behavior of the experimental group was higher than before and also higher than the comparison group. The fasting capillary blood glucose of the experimental group was lower than before and also lower than that of the comparison group with the statistical significance level of .001.
Conclusions: The program had improved the degree of change in dietary behavior, eating behavior and fasting capillary blood glucose.
