Abstract

If a patient with chronic kidney injury stage 2 have appropriate self-management, he could improve to stage 1. The objectives of this quasi-experimental research were to examine the effects of self-management on health behaviors and kidney function of patients with chronic kidney injury stage 2. The samples included hypertension and/or diabetic patients with chronic kidney injury stage 2 who met the study criteria. Sixty subjects were randomly assigned and separated into experimental and control group using match-paired by age, sex, education, and period of hypertension and/or diabetic. The experimental group received self-management program 12 weeks. The data collection was using demographic, self-management behaviors questionnaire and serum creatinine record. The demographic data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviation. To compare mean differences change of behavior and serum creatinine between experimental group and control group by independent t-test

The results revealed that after the experiment, health behavior and creatinine of those in the experimental group were better than those in the control group with the significant level of .05. Therefore community nurse practitioners should apply self-management program to promote health behavior of patients for control eating, exercise and drug use behaviors in order to control their kidney function of patients efficiently.
