Abstract

Teenage pregnancy has become one of the national health problems in Thailand. This includes risks during pregnancy, labor and postpartum stages due to the lack of readiness of the body and mind among those pregnant adolescents, especially, in the case of lack of risk evaluation or proper care. Moreover, this might lead to unsafe pregnant termination. Receiving proper risk evaluation from health providers can help pregnant teenagers adjust their maternal role and continue their quality of life.

This article aims to provide a nursing guideline for teenage pregnancy care from a pregnancy to postpartum period. The contents include : 1) during pregnancy, nurses should support pregnant teens to accept their pregnancy, promote their maternal roles, and provide risk assessment; 2) during delivery, nurses should continue risk assessment, and promote mother-infant bonding right after the delivery to build strong attachment between them; 3) during a  postpartum period, nurses should encourage parenting roles, breastfeeding, and life planning especially family planning and contraception to prevent repeated pregnancies.
