Abstract

Promoting healthy behavior is an important strategy for having good health. This one group pretest-posttest research aimed to evaluate the effects of a health promotion program on health behaviors of elderly living in community at Saraburi province. The samples were 65 elderly who participated in this 8-week program with activities including lectures, demonstrations, and practice for a total of 15 hours. Data were collected using questionnaires focusing on health status, health behaviors, and program satisfaction. Descriptive statistics and a dependent t-test were used to analyze data.

The mean age of the sample was 70.03 (SD=6.66), 87.69 % had a primary school education, 75.38 % were chronically ill. The results showed that 92.08 % of the sample of the elderly had a high satisfaction with this program. Mean score comparisons at post-intervention were at a good level and increased including the mean scores of eating behavior (gif.latex?\fn_cm&space;\bar{x}=28.11 (SD=2.89) vs. gif.latex?\fn_cm&space;\bar{x}=29.82 (SD=1.83), p=.000), and stress management (gif.latex?\fn_cm&space;\bar{x}= 20.23 (SD=3.48) vs. gif.latex?\fn_cm&space;\bar{x}=21.91 (SD=2.42), p=.001). Therefore, this program could be used for promoting healthy behavior of the elderly in other communities.
