Factors Influencing Adaptation Behavior of Older Adults among End Stage Renal Disease Patients Receiving Hemodialysis at a Private Hospital in Thailand

The purpose of this predictive relationship research was to study 1) Adaptation Levels of Elderly with End-Stage Renal Disease with Hemodialysis 2) The relationship between social support factors, depression, perceived health status and adaptation of the elderly with end-stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis, and 3) Factors Influencing adaptation behavior of elderly with end stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis. Subjects were 68 persons diagnosed with end stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis at a private hospital in Thailand. They were selected using a multistage random sampling including end stage renal disease patients on receiving hemodialysis on inclusion criteria. Data were collected using interview forms between February 2019 and April 2019. Data were analyzed using Percentage, Mean, Standard deviation, Pearson’s product moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression.
The results of study were as follows: The adaptation of the elderly with end-stage renal disease on hemodialysis was very good (Mean = 3.53, SD = .235) Social support, depression, perceived health status were positively correlated with adaptation behavior of the elderly (r = .336, p <.01 and r = .254, .253, respectively, p <.05) Social support, depression, perceived health status were significant predictors that could explain 25.8 % (R2= .258, p < .05 )of adaptation behavior of elderly with end stage renal disease receiving hemodialysis at a private hospital in Thailand.
