Effect of Pre-Operative Preparing Program on Recovery in Post Abdominal Surgery Patients

This quasi-experimental study was designed to examine the effect of the pre-operative preparing program on recovery in post abdominal surgery patients based on Roy’s adaptation model. The samples consisted of 60 patients undergoing abdominal surgery in the secondary case hospital in Lopburi province. The samples were divided into two groups; intervention and control groups, each group composed of 30 patients. Postoperative recovery after abdominal surgery assessment (PORA) was used to assess postoperative recovery after surgery patients. PORA consisted of five categories including pain scores, number of analgesic drugs used, number of ambulation, the number of bowel movements and post-operative complications. PROA was a test for reliability using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, the reliability was 0.79. Independent t-test procedure was used to analyze the data. The results indicated that the patients who participated preoperative preparing program had a significantly higher recovery score than patients who received routine nursing care score (p<.001).
