Abstract

Purpose: To examine the impact of engaging in collaborative group-based learning activities with media through videos on the perception of violence, awareness of opportunities and risks, expectations regarding response effectiveness and self-efficacy expectations among immediate and six months post-experiment in patient with stroke.


Methods: The sample group are general population which over 20 years old and visit health corner of Out Patient Department at Siriraj Hispital. The sample size is 206 persons, was not random but calculated by N4studies application. Divided to an experimental group and control group, which consist of 103 persons per group. The experimental group was engaged in group learning process with video media developed by the researchers, while the control group participate in regular health promotion activities of hospital. The research instrument consist of 1) Personal information questionnaire, 2) Risk of stroke questionnaire, 3) Perceived severity of stroke questionnaire, 4) Perceived risk of stroke questionnaire, 5) Expectation of effectiveness questionnaire, and 6) Expectation of                       self-efficacy for primary management of stroke questionnaire. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient reliability were .82, .74, .80, and .86, respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics including t-test.


Results: Group learning process with video media have more recognition of symptoms and primary management of stroke than control group at the p < .05 significant level


Conclusion: Group learning process with video media can apply to other health promotion units for general population to access services, knowing symptoms and severity of stroke, and appropriate health behavior.
