THE EFFECT OF CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION THROUGH THE LINE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT ON THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHILDBIRTH PREPARATION AMONG FIRST-TIME PREGNANT WOMEN

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the knowledge of childbirth preparation between a group of first-time pregnant women who received childbirth preparation through Line Official Account and the group who received conventional nursing care. Additionally, the study aimed to compare the knowledge of childbirth preparation before and after using the Line Official Account for childbirth preparation.


Design: Quasi-experimental research.


Methods: The study consisted of a sample group of first-time pregnant women with gestational age between 28 and 36 weeks. The sample group included 30 participants, who were divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=15), who received childbirth preparation through a Line Official Account and was instructed to use it at home for one week, and control groups (n=15), who received conventional nursing care. Data were collected using a demographic data form, an obstetric data form, and a knowledge test about preparation for childbirth. The Kuder Richardson’s reliability index for the knowledge test was 0.73. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon signed rank test were used to analyze the collected data.


Results: The experimental group had a higher level of knowledge about childbirth preparation than the control group.  After the experiment, the experimental group showed an increase in knowledge about childbirth preparation compared to their pre-test scores, with a statistically significant difference at the .05 level.


Conclusion: The study found that using a childbirth preparation through Line Official Account resulted in increasing the knowledge among the first-time pregnant women. These results can be used to encourage pregnant women to seek out knowledge about childbirth preparation on their own.
