Development of Potential Strengthening Model of Child Development Center for Developing Surveillance and Promotion of Child Development System by Using Action Research

Abstract

Purpose: To study and develop the potential strengthening model of Child Development Center for developing surveillance and promotion of child development system of Child Development Center at Ban Na Yor, Na Ngam Sub-district, Renu Nakhon District. Nakhon Phanom Province.


Design: Action Research


Methods: The sample group was selected by a purposive sampling method. They were teachers, mentors and parents. The research tools were the interview form and the assessment of knowledge and skills in operating, monitoring and promoting child development of the teachers, the mentors and the parents of the children in Child Development Center.  Data were collected by interviews, focus group discussion and observation. Data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test and content analysis.   


Findings: 1. Three strategies were employed to develop the potential strengthening model of Child Development Center for developing surveillance and promotion of child development system of Child Development Center at Ban Na Yor, Na Ngam Sub-district, Renu Nakhon District. Nakhon Phanom Province, including 1) potential development, 2) participation and 3) positive reinforcement to allow the participants to play an important role in the operation pushing the promotion of child development system of Child Development Center. 


  1. The implementation of the three strategies allowed the children to receive comprehensive surveillance and monitoring, continuous improvement and the teachers, the mentors and the parents to have more knowledge and understanding in surveillance and able to perform assessment and promotion of child development. It was also found that the knowledge of the teachers, the mentors and the parents increased at a high level as of 24.17%, at a moderate level as of 48.27% and at a low level as of 27.59%, respectively. Also, the knowledge of the teachers, the mentors and the parents in terms of child development assessment skills was at a high level as of 41.38% and at a moderate level as of 58.62%, respectively. When comparing the average score of knowledge after the development, the average knowledge score was higher than that of before the development (=12.60 S.D. =2.53). In addition, the average score of the assessment and promotion of child development skills was higher than that of before the development (=14.71 S.D. =2.54) with statistical significance (p<.05).  For these reasons, the development of children was higher than before the development of the model as of 96.30%, and 100% received follow-up and monitoring assistance. 

Conclusion: The study reflected that the success factors of developing the potential strengthening model of Child Development Center for developing surveillance and promotion of child development system of Child Development Center at Ban Na Yor, Na Ngam Sub-district, Renu Nakhon District. Nakhon Phanom Province included the development of people to have the right knowledge to lead to good health promoting behaviors, the provision of opportunities for all parties to participate in the development and the use of positive reinforcement to create the power to push for a concrete and appropriate model for the context that leads to the better direction of changes in child development.
