Mental illness in chronic disease patient: Role of psychiatric community nurses

Abstract

Several studies have shown that chronic disease lead to mental illness especially in patients with cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer. People with chronic disease suffering from mental illness may effect on motivation in self – care and lead to more severity of chronic disease that likely to difficult and complex to treatment. Therefore, the mental health promotion and mental illness prevention are important and challenging to community psychiatric nurse. The purpose of this article is present the role of community psychiatric nurse in preventing mental illness that consist of primary prevention, secondary prevention and tertiary prevention.
