THE EFFECT OF INFORMATION GIVING VIA ONLINE SOCIAL MEDIA ON ANXIETY IN OLDER PERSONS WITH COLORECTAL CANCER RECEIVING STOMA SURGERY.

Abstract

Purpose: To compare the experimental group on anxiety in older persons with colorectal cancer receiving stoma surgery before and after information giving via online social media and to compare on anxiety in older persons with colorectal cancer receiving stoma surgery between the experimental group after information giving via online social media and control group received routine nursing care.


Design: Quasi experimental research. The pretest-posttest control group design.


Methods: The samples group were older persons who were diagnosed by doctor of having colorectal cancer and receiving stoma surgery in King Chulalongkorn Memorial hospital. Forty four patients were equally divided into control and experimental groups, each group had twenty two patients. The researcher gave information individually. Data were collected use for research include screening instrument, collection data instruments, experiment instruments, and monitoring step instrument. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistic and t-test.


Findings: The anxiety in older persons with colorectal cancer receiving stoma surgery after of information giving via online social media was significantly lower than those before information giving at the level of .05 and between the experimental group with information giving via online social media and control group received routine nursing care. The experimental group with information giving via online social media was significantly lower than those before receiving routine nursing care group at the level of .05


Conclusion: The effect of information giving via online social media on anxiety in older persons with colorectal cancer receiving stoma surgery can decrease anxiety was significantly at the level of .05
