Abstract

This qualitative research aimed to examine nursing students’ perceptions of preparations for nursing and midwifery licensure examination in the new normal. The informants were 26 nursing students who were enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program at a university in Bangkok in the academic year 2021. The researchers carried out an in-depth interview through purposive selection. The research instruments were semi-structured interview guided questions, field note sheets, and personal characteristic records. The content validity was confirmed by three experts. Qualitative data analysis was conducted through thematic analysis and the results were verified by the trustworthiness triangulation method.

The results revealed that nursing students’ perceptions of preparations for nursing and midwifery licensure examination in the new normal consisted of 5 components, which are 1) the meaningfulness of the examination, 2) helpful tips for exam success, 3) the new normal and the exam, 4) the aspiration to be well-versed in the testing areas, and 5) conducive factors to exam success.

These findings can be utilized to construct policies or preparatory courses and develop a guideline for the preparation of professional licensing examinations for nursing students in the next academic years.
