THE EFFECTS OF PROBLEM-SOLVING THERAPY PROGRAM ON ANXIETY DISORDERS IN CHIANGMAI MUNICIPALITY

Abstract

The objective of this experimental research was to study the effect of the problem-solving therapy program toward the anxiety symptoms of the patients with anxiety disorders in Chiang Mai Municipality. The subjects were 60 patients with anxiety disorders in Chiang Mai Municipality who were divided into the experimental and control groups of 30 patients for each group. The instruments for data collection were questionnaires of general data and the anxiety symptom scale which the reliability coefficient was .81. The descriptive statistics for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The statistics for comparing the mean differences of the anxiety symptoms before and after using this program was t-test.

The results showed that the mean score of the anxiety symptoms in experimental group after using this program was statistically and lower than the mean score of the anxiety symptoms before using this program (Mean=28.10, S.D.=5.02 and Mean=42.21, S.D.=3.78, t=14.755, p<.05, respectively; t=8.095, p<.05), The mean score difference of the anxiety symptoms of control group was not statistically significant. It can be concluded that this program can reduce the anxiety.
