THE EFFECT OF PROBLEM SOLVING APPROACH PROGRAMON STRESS OF FAMILY CAREGIVERS TAKING CARE OF ELDERLY STROKE SURVIVORS

The purposes of study were to 1) compare the level of stress of family caregivers taking care of elderly stroke survivors after receiving the problem-solving approach program 2) compare the level of stress of family caregivers taking care of elderly stroke survivors between experimental group and control group. Forty of samples were divided into each group of 20 persons. The instrument used for data collection was the stress of family caregiver questionnaire and tested for content validity and internal consistency reliability by a panel of experts, which shown the reliability of at .91 and .90 respectively. Data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation, and t-test.
Major findings were as follows: 1) The level of the stress of family caregivers taking care of elderly stroke survivors after receiving the problem-solving approach program for family caregivers was significantly lower than before, at .05 level. 2) the level of stress of family caregivers taking care of elderly stroke survivors in experimental group was significantly lower than the control group, at .05 level.
