The Effects of Self-efficacy Promoting Program on Perceived Self-efficacy and Outcome Expectation of Rehabilitation for Persons with Mobility Disability among Village Health Volunteers

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of self-efficacy promoting program on perceived self-efficacy and outcome expectation of rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability among village health volunteers (VHVs). The participants consisted of 60 VHVs who worked in Bo-Thong District, Chonburi Province and were equally divided into an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). The research instruments included the self-efficacy promoting program, the handbook of rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability, the persons with mobility disability competencies assessment form, the role models, the demographic questionnaire, the perceived self-efficacy of rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability questionnaire with the reliability of .99, and the outcome expectation of rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability questionnaire with the reliability of .99. The implementation and data collection were conducted from March to April, 2018. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, and independent t-test.
The research results revealed that the experimental group had statistically significant higher mean different scores of perceived self-efficacy and outcome expectation of rehabilitation for persons with mobility disability than those of the control group (t = 14.840, p < .001 and t = 20.430, p < .001, respectively).
This research suggests that nurses and other personnel should apply this self-efficacy promoting program as a guideline for improving a rehabilitation assistant role of VHVs to enhance the perceived self-efficacy and the outcome expectation of rehabilitation for persons with disability, in order to improve quality of life among persons with disability.
