The Relationships between Personal Factors, Stress, the Wife’s Role, Marital Relationship, and Quality of Life among Infertile Women

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to examine quality of life and the relationships between personal factors, stress, the wife’s role, marital relationship, and quality of life among infertile women. The samples consisted of 62 infertile women who received assisted reproductive technologies treatment at a Private’s clinic, Nakhonratchasima Province. Research instruments composed of the demographic data questionnaire, the Fertility Problem Inventory with the reliability of .87, the Wife’s Role Expectation Questionnaire with the reliability of .83, The Dyadic Adjustment Scale with the reliability of .89, and the WHOQOL-BREF-THAI with the reliability of .87. Data were collected from June to July, 2016. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mode, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s product moment correlation.

The research results revealed that: 1) the samples had a high level of quality of life ( = 102.53, SD = 9.29); 2) marital relationship and the wife’s role were positively statistically significant related to quality of life (r = .540, p < .05 and r = .380, p < .05, respectively). Stress was negatively statistically significant related to quality of life (r = -.500, p < .05). In contrast, age, educational level, and family income were not statistically significant related to quality of life.

This research suggested that nurses should assess stress, marital relationship, and the wife’s role of infertile women to promote quality of life among infertile women
