Abstract

This cross-sectional survey research aimed to examine factors related to receiving cervical cancer screening services. The samples consisted of 380 women aged 30-60 years in Muang District, Pathumthani Province. The research instrument was a 6-part-questionnaire with the reliability in a range of .80-.87. Data were collected from February to April, 2015. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s Chi-square, and Fisher’s exact test.

The results revealed that factors statistically significant related to receiving cervical cancer screening services were as follows—personal factors: age (c2= 26.911, p < .001), marital status (c2= 21.253, p < .001), history of pregnancy (c2= 9.761, p < .01), contraception use (c2= 19.581, p < .001), exercise (c2= 7.472, p < .05), and receiving news of death from cervical cancer (c2= 10.642, p < .01); predisposing factors: perceived susceptibility to cervical cancer (c2= 3.157, p < .05), perceived severity of cervical cancer (c2= 25.034, p < .001), and perceived benefits of cervical cancer screening by a Pap smear technique (c2= 11.547, p < .01); and reinforcing factors: receiving family reinforcement (c2= 12.808, p < .001), receiving external reinforcement (c2= 8.589, p < .01), and receiving information from various sources (c2= 14.868, p < .001).

This study suggested that relevant health care settings should promote awareness in target women and their supporters regarding important and new issues of cervical cancer. Additionally, giving cervical cancer informations via various channels is needed.
