The Effect of Self-Efficacy Promotion Program on Knowledge and Behavior of Unintentional Injury Prevention among Elementary Students in Nakhon Ratchasima Province
Keywords:
self-efficacy promotion program, unintentional accidents, unintentional injuryAbstract
This quasi-experimental research with a pre-posttest design aimed to compare the knowledge and behavior of unintentional injury prevention among elementary students by applying the theory of self-efficacy. The sample consisted of 30 students from grades 4-6 in the Nong Ngu Lueam subdistrict area, selected through simple random sampling. The research instrument included a 4 week self-efficacy promotion program for unintentional injury prevention and questionnaire. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire on knowledge and behavior related to unintentional injury prevention (CVI = 1.0), with reliability coefficients of 0.75 for KR-20 and 0.82 for Cronbach’s alpha. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests.
The research revealed that after participating in the program, the knowledge scores for unintentional injury prevention were significantly higher than before the experiment (p = .002). However, the behavior scores for unintentional injury prevention did not show a significant change (p > .05). The results of this study indicated that the self-efficacy promotion program was effective in term of increasing knowledge about unintentional injury prevention among elementary students. However, the study suggests extending the monitoring period to observe changes in behavior related to unintentional injury prevention.
