Correlation between Health Literacy and Preventive Behaviors of COVID-19 among Older persons in a senior citizen club, Bangkok Metropolis

Abstract

The elderly is a group with increasingly complex changes in physical psychology and society which are different for each person. Especially in the physical that is risk for illness including the risk of infection with of Coronavirus disease 2019. This research was descriptive correlational research. The study aimed to explore the correlation between health literacy and preventive behavior of Coronavirus disease 2019. The sample consist of 400 elderlies in elderly club, Bangkok metropolis selected by simple random sampling. A questionnaire was used to collect data on respondent demographics and health literacy and preventive behavior of Coronavirus disease 2019. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistic and Spearman’s correlation coefficient.

The results indicated that the elderly in elderly club had a good level of health literacy and preventive behavior of Coronavirus disease 2019. And health literacy was positively related to preventive behavior of Coronavirus disease 2019 of elderly with a statistical significance level of .05 with a correlation coefficient (r) of .307

The study finding could be promoting the elderly in elderly club to access to health care service to preventive Coronavirus disease 2019 through various channels such as media, public relations from government agencies, cooperation from health volunteers for the elderly in elderly club receive information and have better and more comprehensive behavior to preventive behavior of Coronavirus disease 2019.
