Abstract

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive study aims to examine predictive factors of health behavior, applying PRECEDE Framework among the patients with uncontrolled hypertension in Samutprakan Province. The sample consisted of 211 males and females aged 39 years old and above, who registered under Bangkaew health promoting hospital and met the inclusion criteria.  Data were collected by the researcher using interview forms.  The findings reveal that most of the subjects were female, and aged more than 60 years, having no job, having comorbidity lipidemia (52.1%) and DM (35.5%)

            According to Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, there were a positive correlation between self-efficacy (r= 0.26), accessibility of information and health service (r= 0.232) social support (r=0.219), and age (r=0.139) p-value < .001).   According to Multiple Regression Analysis, factors that can predict health behavior among the patients with uncontrolled hypertension in Samutprakan Province were self-efficacy, number of diseases, social support from family, and age, accounting for 19% of variance explained for health behavior to control hypertension.   The results from this study can be used to develop a self-efficacy program to promote health behavior to control hypertension among the older patients with multiple disease.
