Abstract

Primigravidas had no experience on labour therefore they may be highly stressful and scared of labour pain resulting in difficult labour process. This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of the empowerment program for coping behavior with labour pain on the pain score and the labour period during the first stage in the primigravidas, Sungnoen Hospital, NakhonRatchasima Province. The study samples were divided into experimental group and control group with 30 samples each. Data had been collected from February–March 2021. Research tool was empowerment program for coping with labour pain. Content validity was tested by experts and the IOC was 0.92, Personal information, Observation form on behavior and Visual Analog Scale were used. Obtained data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Independent t-test and paired t-test.                                                                                                                                                  The results revealed that mean score of coping behavior with labour pain in each stage of the experimental group was higher than the comparison group (p < 0.05). Mean score of labour pain of the experimental group was also lower than that the comparison group (p<0.05). There was no statistical difference of labor period duration during the first stage of between the experimental and the control group. The results could be concluded that empowerment program can be used to plan for taking care of pregnant women from antenatal care to the delivery period. As a result, the primigravidas can be confident in facing pain at any stage of labour.
