Community Participation in Preventing Unwanted Teenage Pregnancies: A Case Study in the school of Muang, Suratthani Province

Abstract

The number of unwanted teenage pregnancies were too high, it rises to be the
national problem. One of the opportunity expansion school in Muang District, Suratthani
Province had the same problem. They can't solve the problem, the community and the
school decided to join the participatory action research, the objectives were 1) to study
the level of the community participation 2) to develope the knowledge of pregnancy
prevention 3) to develope the unwanted pregnancy preventive behavior. The samples
consisted of group 1 : 20 leaders, group 2 : 42 students in Matthayom 2.The research were
conducted on May 2014 – January 2015. The tools were 1) the questionare of community
participation. 2) the test for pregnancy prevention knowledge. 3)the questionare of
pregnancy preventive behavior. Analysis data was done by mean, percentage, standard
deviation, dependent t-test significance at .05.
The results revealed that, the level of community participation before the study
was in the middle after the study was in the good. The mean score of the pregnancy
prevention knowledge and unwanted pregnancy preventive behavior after the study were
higher than before with statistically significance at .05. No teenage pregnancy during the
research was conducted. It showed that the participatory action research effected on
improving the knowledge and behavior of unwanted pregnant.
Recommendation: To be continue fallow up the activities in the school after the
research end up in 1 year later, for evaluate the sustainable activities on pregnancy
preventive behavior of the teenage.
