Abstract

Effectiveness of the program for the development of competency of the elderly’s caregivers who have dependent conditions at home, medical center, Khon Kaen.

Abstract

Introduction : Thailand is now fully integrated into the aging society. It is a challenge that health service groups in the public health service system and other departments must integrate, providing care for the elderly who are dependent to live in families, communities and society in a healthy way.

Objective : to study the effectiveness of the program for the development of competencies for the elderly who have dependent groups at home, medical center friendship, Khon Kaen.

Methods : this research was conducted in a single group of experiments, measured before and after the test. The one group was tested to study the effectiveness of the program for developing the performance of the elderly care workers with dependent conditions in the home care group, medical friendship center, Khon Kaen. The two groups were selected for specific : 1) the group of healthy elderly care workers aged under 75 years old and 26 elderly people with dependent conditions. The data was collected between August and October 2024. The research tool includes teaching plan, geriatric caregiver questionnaire, geriatric questionnaire, analyze data with frequency. Percentage, average. The standard deviation for personal data and using the Wilcoxon signed rank test, compare the grade level of elder caregivers, the difference in knowledge, attitude and skills of elder care before/after experiment, and compare the level of competence, the difference in average behavior, the daily routine of the elder before/after experiment.

The results showed that the average score for knowledge in care of the elderly before and after receiving the performance improvement program of the caretakers of the elderly with home-based dependents (n = 26) found that the average score for general knowledge was 14.85 (s. D.=1.93) and after training increased to 17.57 (s. D.=1.33). Statistical tests showed a statistically significant difference (t=5.52, p.001) for knowledge in rehabilitation with physical therapy. The average score was 6.30 (s.D.=1.49) and after training increased to 7.00 (s.D.=1.79). When statistical tests showed no significant statistical difference (Z=-1.731, p=.083). Thus, the results of the performance development program were effective in enhancing the general knowledge of elderly caregivers with home-addiction syndrome, but no significant difference was found in the knowledge of physical therapy rehabilitation.

Recommendation: 1) Longitudinal studies should be conducted to assess the persistence of knowledge and skills of elderly caregivers, including the ability to reassemble the elderly's daily routines for at least 6 months to 1 year. 2) training programs for physical therapy rehabilitation should be developed, with increased training periods and continuous monitoring and evaluation.
