Nursing care in patients underwent total hip arthroplasty

Abstract

Objective: Total hip arthroplasty is surgery that gives patient a good quality of life. The aim is to help patients recover from pain caused by the pathology of the disease, as well as to maintain the movement and stability of the hip joint. It is a major surgery, complicated, and takes a long time to operate. There is a chance of complications during and after the operation. It is necessary to use nurses who are skilled, have knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, and have specialized expertise in nursing care before, during, and after the operation to provide comprehensive and effective nursing care, allowing patients who have undergone total hip arthroplasty surgery to have a better quality of life than in the past.

Purpose: To study how to manage patient who undergo total hip arthroplasty in avascular necrosis of hip

Method: Studying case of patients who undergo total hip arthroplasty by selecting sample by specific 2 cases at Khon Kaen Hospital during between February and July 2023.

Result: The result from these 2 cases study undergo total hip arthroplasty. The first case uses surgery time 1 hours 32 minutes. Hospital duration of 7 days. All of them had received good caring through the crisis and complications. Then all of patient can be discharge and go back home on February 13, 2023. The second case uses surgery time 1 hours 45 minutes. Hospital duration of 7 days. All of them had received good caring through the crisis and complications. Then all of patient can be discharge and go back home on February 13, 2023. From these case study shown that nurse who taking care of these patients need to have specific knowledge and competency to providing care of total hip arthroplasty patient.

Conclusion: Clinical nursing practice guideline (CNPG) for nursing care of patient that undergo total hip arthroplasty was developed and be the case of more effective nursing care of patients.
