Nursing care of necrotizing fasciitis with septic shock: 2 case studies

Abstract

Introduction Necrotizing fasciitis is a bacterial infection of soft tissues, aggressive and rapid progression.  Accurate diagnosis, rapid antibiotic treatment, and prompt surgery can reduce disability and mortality rate.  

Objective: To study nursing care of necrotizing fasciitis with septic shock

Design: Comparative 2 case study of necrotizing fasciitis with septic shock. Using FANCAS nursing process

Results: Same nursing diagnoses were 1) septic shock, 2) Tissue hypoxia, 3) Healthcare- associated infection 4) Volume overload and azotemia, 5)Hypoglycemia, 6) Electrolyte Imbalance 7)Anemia, 8)Pain, 9) Impaired activities daily life, 10) imbalanced nutrition: less than body required, 11) Anxiety.  Different nursing diagnoses were 1)  Self-care knowledge deficit, 2) Risk to bleeding, 3) Loss of body image The nursing results in case study 1 all problems were resolved and the patient was discharged, but in case study 2 was death.

Utilization The results of this study were developed into nursing standards. Nursing practice guidelines, clinical supervision manual and research to study outcome of nursing guidelines of necrotizing fasciitis with septic shock
