AbstractThis descriptive research aimed to examine caregivers, needs in caring for children with pneumonia, in pediatric units of tertiary hospital in the Northeastern of Thailand. The participants included 177 parents or guardians who were primary caregivers of children with pneumonia during February to July 2016. Research instrument was consisted of self-report questionnaires. Demographic and need assessment data were analyzed by using frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations. The top three needed health information in caring for children with pneumonia were 1) respiratory distress management, 2) notiﬁcation update from nurses of child condition changes, and 3) Caring for prevention of recurrent pneumonia. Caregivers also reported the needs to be Participated in various aspects of caring for the child with pneumonia such as open communication, routine care, technical care and decision-making. Caregivers also need to be well-informed in decision making in providing care to the child with pneumonia. Nurses must take into consideration, the caregiver, s and family, s needs and allow them to participate in the care of children with pneumonia.
