Life skills and adjustment of adolescents (first year students) in the faculty of Nursing, Khon Kaen University

The purpose of this descriptive research wasto study the life skills, adjustment of adolescents(first year students) of the faculty of Nursing, KhonKaen University and the relationship between the lifeskills and the adjustment of the students. The sampleswere 175 first year students enrolled in the faculty ofnursing, Khon Kaen University, academic year 2008.The research instruments used in this study werethe designed questionnaires consisting of decisionmaking, self esteem and emotion coping. The adjustmentscales consisted of academic adjustment subscales, socialadjustment subscales, personal emotional adjustmentsubscales and attachment subscales. The data wereanalyzed by using SPSS program and reported asfrequencies, percentages, means, standard deviation andthe Pearsonûs product moment correlation coefficient.The results showed that:1. The life skills of adolescents of the facultyof nursing, Khon Kaen University were rather on highlevel, where emotion coping was highest (x =2.92),self esteem (x =2.88) and decision making (x =2.87)respectively. The total adjustment scale wasconsiderably high (x =3.01).2. There was a significant positive relationshipbetween the life skills and the adjustment (p= 0.01).The life skills in emotion coping was most relatedwith adjustment ( r = 0.67 ).Downloads
