Reducing Alcohol Misuse in Community: An Application of the Family Health Nurse into Research Intervention

The action research based on WHO Family Health Nurse combining quantitative and qualitative forreducing drinking problems was conducted. Quantitative data were gathered using a survey among 256 community,and 235 family leaders. Qualitative data were collected through brain storming and dialogue with 60 familyand community leaders from 15 villages. Results revealed a large-scale alcohol misuse. Three villages participatedin the implementation of the project. The strategic and action plans solving alcohol problems, empowerment,support, and education took place in various forms to prevent, solve and rehabilitate undesirable drinkingproblems. Exit evaluation of the proposed model was conducted. Results revealed decreased alcohol consumptionin the communities. A knowledge and experience exchange forum was carried out among the committee andlocal government agencies. Finally, ùThe Kumpavapi modelû was presented as a model for solving unwanteddrinking problems.Downloads
