Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop the clinical nursing practice guidelines for  exclusive breastfeeding promotion of postpartum mothers, Chaiyaphum hospital. The PDCA process was employed with 11 nurses who work in postpartum ward. The sample comprised 22 couple of postpartum mothers and newborns. The activities consisted of the breastfeeding situation analysis and clinical nursing practice guidelines developing. The clinical nursing practice guidelines consisted of 3 periods that 1) Admission period, 2) 24-48 hours after birth, and 3) Before discharge period. The results showed that the clinical nursing practice guidelines consisted of 37 nursing activities. The content validity index was 0.98. The clinical nursing practice guidelines was applied and found that 36 nursing activities could be practiced more than 80 percent. Satisfaction of the nurses to clinical nursing practice guidelines 100 percent, and satisfaction of postpartum mothers to nursing practices more than 80 percent. In conclusion, the clinical nursing practice guidelines consisted of 3 periods, and 36 activities was probable to promote exclusive breastfeeding successfully.
