Abstract

This action research’s objective was to study the situation and to develop a guideline to prevent andcontrol dengue hemorrhagic fever through community participation. Data were collected by interviewing the public health offi cials who participated in prevention and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever, community organizations, family’s health representatives, and the village health volunteers.  The results of the study were as follows. The community surroundings were found to be a marsh.  Bamboo pieces leftover from basketry works were found to be good places for common house mosquitoes’ breeding sites. People in the community did not have appropriate behavior in prevention and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever. The operations of this research were to organize a stage for exchanging knowledge, campaigning, and training family’s health representatives. The operations also included extermination of common house mosquitoes’ breeding sites in each house and turning leftover bamboo pieces into charcoal. The evaluation found that people were willing to participate in extermination of common house mosquitoes’ breeding sites. The abundant number of common house mosquitoes was decreased.
