บทคัดย่อ

The purpose of this research was to study burdens and factors affecting burden on caregivers of older persons with Parkinson’s disease. A sample of 146 primary caregivers of older persons with Parkinson’s disease attended at the Outpatient Department, Srinakarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University during March to June 2015 were recruited to this study. The participants were assessed by using a 6 part questionnaire including, personal information of older persons with Parkinson’s disease and caregivers, Thai Burden Interview for Caregivers of Patients with Chronic Illness, Beck Depression Inventory, Sense of Coherence Scale, the Personal Resource Questionnaire, Barthel ADL Index and Chula ADL Index. Results showed that 50.7 % of primary caregivers of older persons with Parkinson’s disease perceived no burden in taking care of the patients. However, depression (β = .516), instrumental activities of daily living of older persons with Parkinson’s disease (β = -.166) and the severities of the disease (only stage three) (β = .158) were significant predictors of caregiver burden which accounting for 37.5% of the variance.
