The application of protection motivation theory on community participation in health activity and prevention of hypertension among the working age group

Abstract

            The quasi-experimental research design, the two group pretest posttest design, purposes were 1) To compare protection motivation of hypertension of the experimental group, and between the experimental group and the control group, 2) To compare community participation in health activity between the experimental group and the control group, and 3) To compare systolic blood pressure (SBP), body mass index (BMI), and waist-circumference (WC) in the experimental group. Subjects included working age group who were without hypertension. The instruments used in this research were 1) The program of protection motivation of hypertension and 2) The questionnaires of protection motivation of hypertension. The results of research were    1) Subjects in the experimental group had significant increased protection motivation of hypertension after intervention, and more than subjects in the control group. (p < .05)    2) Subjects in the experimental group had significant increased community participation in health activity more than subjects in the control group. (p < .05) and 3) Subjects in the experimental group had significant decreased SBP, BMI, and WC after intervention.      (p < .05)
