Abstract

This research aimed to develop a care package and to evaluate caregivers' ability and activities of daily living of older adults with heart failure. Methodology of the research comprised of 2 phases: the development and the implementation phase, which included evaluation. The sample consisted of 26 older adults with heart failure after discharged from the hospital within 1-6 months and 26 their caregivers. The evaluation outcomes were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks test. The result revealed that the mean score of caregivers' ability in maintaining functional abilities of older adults with heart failure and the mean score of Barthel scale of activities of daily living were significantly higher than before applying this care package (p < .001). The results of this study indicate that the care package is appropriate to use for enhancing caregivers' ability in maintaining functional abilities of older adults with heart failure at home.
