Developing model of health promoting behavior in preventing HIV and STDs in the youths in the city

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop the model of health promotion behavior in preventing HIV/STDs in youths. The study was divided in two phases. Phase I: Situational analysis regarding preventing HIV and STDs in 700 youths. Focus group discussions were conducted with 150 volunteers and 150 youths. The results showed that youths had a low level of mean score of behavior and life skill of HIV/STDs prevention. The factors putting youths at risk of HIV/STDs infection were sexual media exposure, the harmful environments, and parents’ lack of good intention of childrearing. Phase II: Developing a model of health promotion for HIV/STDs prevention comprised: 1) supporting factors: health networks, budgets, and youth centers, 2) updated education and training of HIV/STDs prevention involving with volunteers, parents, and youths and 3) evaluation of outcomes.
