Abstract

The LINE Official Account Application is a communication channel that is popular and widely used currently. It can be used in health services as a channel for communicating and educating patients, especially for individuals with diabetes who require self- insulin injection. The objectives of this research were 1) to compare the self- insulin injection knowledge scores of patients with type 2 diabetes before and after receiving health education and health counseling model using Line Official Account Application and 2) to study the satisfaction of patients and registered nurses in using the LINE Application. The study is quasi-experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. Sample was divided into two groups: 1) thirty patients with type 2 diabetes who required self-insulin injections for the first time, between July 2023 – April 2023, and 2) nurses working in the internal medicine ward 4c, Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.

The research instruments were 1) LINE Official Account for providing knowledge and counseling, 2) a self-insulin injection for patients with type 2 diabetes knowledge questionnaire, and 3) the satisfaction of patients and registered nurses in providing education and consultation on self-insulin injection via the LINE Official Account. Statistics used for analysis were frequency, mean, percentage. A comparison between knowledge scores before and after the intervention were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-Test.

The results showed that 1) The mean knowledge score increased from 15.83 before receiving health education and health counseling model using Line Official Account Application to be 20.90 after receiving health education and health counseling model using Line Official Account Application, accounting for 32.03%. Comparison between both mean scores using Paired Sample T-Test found that the difference of mean scores was statistically significant at the 0.01 level. and 2) Overall satisfaction of patients and registered nurses towards the health education and health counseling model using Line Official Account Application for self- insulin injection was at the highest level. According to the research findings, the health education and health counseling model using Line Official Account Application was suitable for educating and counseling patients with type 2 diabetes receiving self- insulin injection.
