Abstract

This one group pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effects of meditation using the SKT technique 1 and 7 on fatigue and oxygen saturation in adolescents with cancer. The samples were adolescent patients with cancer aged 10-19 years old, who were receiving chemotherapy. Thirteen adolescent patients were recruited using purposive sampling. The sample were instructed to perform daily SKT technique 1 and 7 meditation, twice a day, 10-15 min per session for consecutive four weeks. Data collection was conducted using a fatigue in adolescents with cancer questionnaire and fingertip pulse oximeters. Comparison between the pre-test and post-test of mean fatigue scores and oxygen saturation values were analyzed using paired t-test. The research results showed that mean fatigue score after the experiment was significantly lower than that before the experiment (p < .05). The mean oxygen saturation values at the 1st week after the experiment were significantly higher than that before the experiment (p<.05). However, the mean oxygen saturation scores before and 4th week after the experiment were not significantly different (p>.05).
