Application of Orem Theory in Nursing care for children with pneumonia: A case study

Abstract

Pneumonia is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under 5 years of age because it can lead to hypoxia or respiratory failure. Nurses play an important role in caring for dependent care children to get through crisis condition to maintain body structure and functions, prevent complications, as well as promote development and health rehabilitation. This paper applies Orem's theory regarding therapeutic self-care demand; which consists of 1) universal self-care requisites, 2) developmental self-care requisites, and 3) health deviation self-care requisites. The purpose is to maintain the life and health of children with pneumonia, contributing to good quality of life for patients and caregivers.
