Abstract

This quasi-experimental two group pre-posttest design aimed to examine the effect of using EKG model for EKG interpretation on EKG Interpretation knowledge among nursing students. Sixty-six fourth-year nursing students were randomly assigned into experimental group (33 cases) and control group (33 cases). The experimental group received EKG model-based learning and teaching, whereas the other had a conservative learning and teaching method. EKG Interpretation knowledge and EKG model quality were measured using the questionnaires. Descriptive and t-test statistics were used to analyze the data.

The results indicated that the experimental group had significantly higher mean EKG Interpretation knowledge scores (=11.45, SD=1.970) than the control group (=9.15, SD=2.048) at p<0.05. Furthermore, most of the experimental groups had moderate to high knowledge scores, whereas the control group had a low level of knowledge score. The quality assessment of the EKG model for EKG interpretation showed good to excellent results. The overall average score was 3.62. Therefore, teaching EKG with this model should be conducted in nursing courses.
