The factors associated with snack and sweetened beverage consumption behaviors among junior high school students at Banrai School, Nan Province

Abstract

This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study, aiming to study snack and sweetened beverage consumption behaviors and factors associated with these behaviors among junior high school students at Banrai school, Nan province. Sample of 50 junior high school students in the academic year of 2564 were recruited. A self-administered questionnaire on factors related to snacks and sweetened beverage consumption behavior was used as a research tool. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and relationships of factors were analyzed using Chi-square test. The results showed that the sample had snack and sweetened beverages consumption behaviors at low level (22 percent) and expenses received per day were correlated with snack and sweetened beverage consumption behavior with a statistically significant (p-value = 0.05). According to the study, knowledge and attitude should be developed for students to be aware of suitable behaviors. Emphasis should be placed on promoting students to have appropriate snack and sweetened beverage consumption behaviors. The research results can be used in planning to promote proper consumption behaviors by considering primarily on expenses received per day, together with other factors.
