This study was to identify predicting factors of depression among college students. The Center for
Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale (CES-D) Thai version was used to screen a total of 2,187 participating
students in the northeastern of Thailand using a randomized 4-stage stratified cluster system. The average age of
student participants was 20.6 years. It was found that 21.40% of the students scored higher 22 on the CES-D,
which indicted depression. Analysis of the data weighted by multiple logistic regressions found that family
connectedness, social support from friends, self esteem, financial expenses and life event contributed to the prediction
of depression among college students. Social support from relatives and drugs use was found to be a predictor of
depressive disorders only among woman. Self esteem was found to be a predictor of depressive disorders only
among man.
